"One-Ball Rule" In Effect

NOTE! THE OPTIONAL CONDITIONS AS PRESCRIBED IN APPENDIX I, PART C-1(b) & (c) OF THE 2008-2009 USGA RULES OF GOLF BOOK SHALL BE IN EFFECT!

THE BALL A PLAYER USES SHALL BE NAMED ON THE CURRENT LIST OF CONFORMING GOLF BALLS ISSUED BY THE USGA.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE:    DISQUALIFICATION

 THE SO-CALLED "ONE-BALL" RULE WILL BE IN EFFECT AT BOTH THE STATE AMATEUR DISTRICT QUALIFYING AND THE ACTUAL WISCONSIN STATE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP ITSELF!

DURING A STIPULATED ROUND, THE BALL(S) A PLAYER USES MUST BE OF THE SAME BRAND AND MODEL AS DETAILED BY A SINGLE ENTRY ON THE MOST CURRENT LIST OF CONFORMING GOLF BALLS.

PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE:    2 (TWO) STROKES FOR EACH HOLE WHERE VIOLATION OCCURS. MAXIMUM PENALTY PER ROUND IS 4 (FOUR) STROKES.

Contestants Dinner-Monday P.M.

All contestants are invited to attend the Contestants Dinner at the OLD HICKORY GOLF CLUB on Monday evening, July 21st, 2008.   The Contestants Dinner will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m., provided there are no weather delays.

There is no cost for this Contestants Dinner for any contestant in the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship.   The cost of the dinner is included in each players entry fee.

Electronic Measuring Devices

During 2008 WSGA competitions, THE USE OF ELECTRONIC MEASURING DEVICES (EMD's) IS PERMITTED.  Electronic Measuring Devices (EMD's) include Hand-held devices, GPS-based systems, etc.

The Following LOCAL RULE will be in effect for all WSGA competitions, excluding USGA Qualifying events, during the 2008 season:

In WSGA competitions for 2008, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.” 

The wording of this Local Rule means that a player may not use a device that is also capable of measuring conditions other than distance, even if those functions are “turned off” during a competition.

Furthermore, the WSGA will have in place, at every WSGA competition, excluding USGA Qualifying events, specially-equipped LASER LINK reflective Flagsticks which facilitate the measuring process.

Eligibility

Entries are open to all amateur male golfers who are 2008 WSGA Associate Members of a WSGA member club with a MAXIMUM 2008 WSGA/USGA HANDICAP INDEX of 9.4, are residents of Wisconsin and/or are affiliated with a WSGA member club.   Non-resident members must agree not to participate in any other state’s major amateur championships.   All handicaps will be verified and the date of eligibility requirement will be June 3rd, 2008.

Entry Deadline

All EXEMPT PLAYER entries must reach WSGA office by 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008.   Late, incomplete or phone entries are not acceptable. FAX entries are acceptable ONLY if using a credit card as method of payment. The WSGA Fax Number is (414) 443-0817.

Entry Fee Info-EXEMPT PLAYERS

For all EXEMPT players, entry fee is $150.00 and must accompany entry blank.

The cost of the Monday evening Contestants Dinner IS INCLUDED in this entry fee.

Format of Competition

FOR THE STATE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP: 
Competition will be 72 holes of stroke-play.   The starting field will consist of 180 players.   Lowest scorer for 72 holes will be the Champion.   In the event of a tie for the championship there will be a hole-by-hole play-off immediately upon completion of the final round.

36 Hole CUT:    The 70 low scorers and ties after 36 holes will play the final two rounds.

Special Note:    In case of inclement weather, the 36-Hole CUT could be reduced to the 60 Low scorers, plus ties, IN THE EVENT THAT THE FINAL TWO ROUNDS (36 HOLES - ROUNDS 3 & 4) WOULD NEED TO BE PLAYED ON ONE DAY, THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2008.

LIVE "REAL-TIME" SCORING

During all rounds of the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORPORATION, contestants scores and their position in the tournament will be updated "LIVE" on the Internet and on the TV's inside the clubhouse at OLD HICKORY GOLF CLUB.

Contestants are REQUIRED to report their Hole-by-Hole scores to WSGA Tournament Volunteer Score-Keepers at holes to be determined by the WSGA Tournament Committee.

Motorized Carts & Caddies

Contestants may bring their own caddie, carry their own clubs or use a motorized cart.   Pull or Push carts, whether or not motorized, MAY be used for the Championsip.  

Club caddies will NOT be available from OLD HICKORY GOLF CLUB.    If you wish to reserve a motorized golf cart for the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORP., please contact the pro shop at Old Hickory Golf Club (920) 887-7577 AND the WSGA office (414) 443-3560 to inform everyone of your request. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:    Contestants in the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORP., who bring their own caddie, MUST register that caddie with the WSGA Tournament Committee EACH DAY OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP AND put a deposit ($30.00 cash OR credit card OR Drivers License) down for his caddies caddie bib, which MUST be worn during the players stipulated round(s) during the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORP. 

Pairings and Starting Times

For the State Amateur Championship, pairings will be made by the WSGA and all players notified of their starting times by mail or e-mail, and posted on our web site (www.wsga.org) in the “Tournaments” section AND on the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Tournament Information Page.

Pairings for Rounds 1 & 2 will be the same.   Pairings for Rounds 3 & 4 will be based on the competitors position in the tournament.

Practice Round Information

Contestants in the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORPORATION may contact the Pro Shop at OLD HICKORY GOLF CLUB  (920) 887-7577 to make arrangements for a practice round.

A limited amount of tee times AFTER 1:00 P.M. will be available on Sunday afternoon, July 20th, 2008 for contestants in the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORP.

NOTE:     Any fees for practice round(s) to be paid for by contestants.

Qualifying-Non-Exempt Players

Players who are NON-EXEMPT for the 2008 WSGA State Amateur Championship Presented by TIZIANI GOLF CAR CORPORATION SHOULD NOT enter the State Amateur through this Tournament Information Page, but rather should enter through the Tournament Information Page of the District Qualifying site nearest to where they live OR where they wish to attempt to qualify.

All NON-EXEMPT players must qualify at the site in district of residence, unless submitting a statement of reason acceptable to the WSGA for transfer. Allocation of the number of qualifying spots for each district will be pro-rated by the total number of entries and POSTED BEFORE THE QUALIFYING ROUND. THE WSGA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TRANSFER QUALIFIERS.

STATE AM TELEVISED???

Time Warner Sports Channel (Channel 32 in Milwaukee) may again be on site during the 3rd and/or 4th (Final) rounds of the 2008 WSGA Wisconsin State Amateur Championship presented by TIZIANI Golf Car Corporation to televise the action at Old Hickory Golf Club.

In 2007, Time Warner Sports Channel televised the Final round of the 2008 WSGA Wisconsin State Amateur Championship presented by TIZIANI Golf Car Corporation and had a "Live" feed showing inside the clubhouse during the Final round.   The actual telecast was shown on Time Warner Sports Channel (Channel 32 in Milwaukee) about a week or so after the championship was completed. 

Yule Cup Team Competition

A WSGA member club may designate a 3-man team for Yule Cup competition.    Unless the WSGA is notified prior to the start of the tournament, the team will be comprised of the three lowest Handicap Index members.  The 3-man team with the lowest aggregate score for the first 36 holes of play (Rounds #1 & #2) will be declared winners in the Yule Cup competition. Team members must be affiliated with the same WSGA member club, which is interpreted to mean - a team member MUST be eligible to participate in the member club or member golf course’s Championship events. Ties for the Team Championship will result in duplicate awards being presented to the members of those teams who tie for the Team Championship.
