Title Detail
Electronic Measuring Devices

During 2008 WSGA competitions, THE USE OF ELECTRONIC MEASURING DEVICES (EMD's) IS PERMITTED.  Electronic Measuring Devices (EMD's) include Hand-held devices, GPS-based systems, etc.

The Following LOCAL RULE will be in effect for all WSGA competitions, excluding USGA Qualifying events, during the 2008 season:

In WSGA competitions for 2008, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.”

The wording of this Local Rule means that a player may not use a device that is also capable of measuring conditions other than distance, even if those functions are “turned off” during a competition.

Furthermore, the WSGA will have in place, at every WSGA competition, excluding USGA Qualifying events, specially-equipped LASER LINK reflective Flagsticks which facilitate the measuring process.

Eligibility

Entries are open to all amateur male golfers who attained age 55 by July 28th, 2008 AND are affiliated with a WSGA member club, which is interpreted to mean - a team member must be eligible to participate in a member club or golf course’s Championship events. Teams members do NOT necessarily have to be from the SAME WSGA member club.   Team members must have a MAXIMUM combined WSGA/USGA HANDICAP INDEX OF 22.4 .   All handicap indexes will be verified by the WSGA, and the date of the eligibility requirement will be July 7th, 2008.

Entry Deadline

The field will close at 112 acceptable teams or at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, July 7th, 2008.   Late, incomplete or phone entries are not acceptable. FAX entries are acceptable ONLY if using a credit card as method of payment.

The WSGA Fax Number is (414) 443-0817.

Entry Fee Information

Entry fee is $330.00 per team and must accompany entry blank.     Checks or Credit Cards are accepted for payment.

Format of Competition

Competition will be at 36 holes (Two 18-Hole rounds), accumulative stroke-play Best-Ball (Four-ball), with gross and net champions being determined in two Age Divisions, SENIORS (One or both team members is age 55-64) & SUPER-SENIORS (BOTH team members are at least 65 years old or older)    There will be shotgun starts on both Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 A.M. and again at approximately 1:30 P.M.   Contestants will be RE- PAIRED for the second round based upon first round gross Best-Ball score.    Higher scores from Monday will be assigned to the Tuesday A.M. “Shotgun” start.     Pairings MUST be honored!     Any play-off required to determine the over-all gross Best-Ball champion in either age division will take place immediately upon completion of the final round on a hole-by-hole basis.   Net ties to be determined by a handicap scorecard play-off method.

New for 2008 –   There will be a SUPER-SENIOR DIVISION  for teams whose members are BOTH age 65 or older.   Competition in the Super-Senior Age Division will be for BOTH GROSS & NET BEST-BALL SCORES.     Competition in the Super-Senior Age Division will be played from a different (SHORTER) set of tees than the regular Senior Division.   If BOTH TEAM MEMBERS ARE AGE 65 or OLDER, the team MUST indicate on the Entry Form or during the on-line registration process, in which division that team will compete, the Senior Division or the Super-Senior Division.    Thus, a team whose members are BOTH age 65 or Older MAY CHOOSE to compete in the Regular (Senior) Age Division, and compete from the set of tees played in that age division.
