Electronic Measuring Devices

During 2008 WSGA competitions, THE USE OF ELECTRONIC MEASURING DEVICES (EMD's) IS PERMITTED.  Electronic Measuring Devices (EMD's) include Hand-held devices, GPS-based systems, etc.

The Following LOCAL RULE will be in effect for all WSGA competitions, excluding USGA Qualifying events, during the 2008 season:

In WSGA competitions for 2008, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.”

The wording of this Local Rule means that a player may not use a device that is also capable of measuring conditions other than distance, even if those functions are “turned off” during a competition.

Furthermore, the WSGA will have in place, at every WSGA competition, excluding USGA Qualifying events, specially-equipped LASER LINK reflective Flagsticks which facilitate the measuring process.
