ONLY players who are EXEMPT for the 2008 WSGA State Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade may enter ON-LINE through THIS PARTICULAR TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PAGE.

The names of those players who ARE EXEMPT for the 2008 WSGA State Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade are on the 1st page of the Entry Form.    To get or view the Entry Form, go to the ENTRY FORM section of this website and click on the words "ENTRY FORM".

NON-EXEMPT PLAYERS SHOULD ENTER ON-LINE BY VISITING THE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PAGE OF THE WSGA MATCH PLAY QUALIFYING DISTRICT NEAREST TO WHERE THEY LIVE, OR WHERE THEY WOULD LIKE TO QUALIFY.

Those players with 50 or more points from the 2007 WSGA Player of the Year points list are exempt for the 2008 WSGA State Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade. Those players who need to qualify must pre-qualify at Hartford GC, Yahara Hills GC (East), The GC at Camelot or Hillcrest G & CC. NOTE! THE OPTIONAL CONDITIONS AS PRESCRIBED IN APPENDIX I, PART C-1(b) & (c) OF THE 2008-2009 USGA RULES OF GOLF BOOK SHALL BE IN EFFECT!

THE BALL A PLAYER USES SHALL BE NAMED ON THE CURRENT LIST OF CONFORMING GOLF BALLS ISSUED BY THE USGA.

PENALTY: DISQUALIFICATION

THE SO-CALLED "ONE-BALL" RULE WILL BE IN EFFECT AT BOTH THE DISTRICT QUALIFYING EVENTS AS WELL AS THE ACTUAL STATE MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP: 

DURING A STIPULATED ROUND, THE BALL(S) A PLAYER USES MUST BE OF THE SAME BRAND AND MODEL AS DETAILED BY A SINGLE ENTRY ON THE MOST CURRENT LIST OF CONFORMING GOLF BALLS.

PENALTY: 2 (TWO) STROKES FOR EACH HOLE WHERE VIOLATION OCCURS. MAXIMUM PENALTY PER ROUND IS 4 (FOUR) STROKES.

During 2008 WSGA competitions, THE USE OF ELECTRONIC MEASURING DEVICES (EMD's) IS PERMITTED.  Electronic Measuring Devices (EMD's) include GPS-based systems, hand-held devices, etc.

The Following LOCAL RULE will be in effect for all WSGA competitions, excluding USGA Qualifying events, during the 2008 season:

“In WSGA competitions for 2008, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.” 

The wording of this Local Rule means that a player may not use a device that is also capable of measuring conditions other than distance, even if those functions are “turned off” during a competition.

Furthermore, the WSGA will have in place, at every WSGA competition, excluding USGA Qualifying events, specially-equipped LASER LINK reflective Flagsticks which facilitate the measuring process.

Entries are open to all male amateur golfers with a MAXIMUM WSGA/USGA HANDICAP INDEX OF 9.4, are residents of Wisconsin and/or are affiliated with a WSGA member club.   Non-resident members must agree not to participate in any other states major amateur championships. All handicaps will be verified and the date of eligibility requirement will be May 7th, 2008.

All entries must reach the WSGA office by 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 7th, 2008.

The Entry Fee for those players who are EXEMPT for the 2008 WSGA Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade is $115.00.   THE ENTRY FEE INCLUDES THE COST FOR USE OF A MOTORIZED CART DURING THE STROKE PLAY QUALIFYING ROUND, WHICH IS MANDATORY FOR ALL CONTESTANTS!   To see if you have any 2007 Player of the Year points go to http://wsga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/wsga7/standing.htm. 

NON-EXEMPT PLAYERS SHOULD NOT ENTER ON-LINE THROUGH THIS PARTICULAR TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PAGE, BUT RATHER THE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION PAGE OF THE MATCH PLAY DISTRICT QUALIFYING SITE THEY WISH TO ENTER.

Entry fee for either District Qualifying Round for NON-EXEMPT players is $65.00 and must accompany entry blank.
Balance of entry fee FOR SUCCESSFUL QUALIFIERS - $50.00 - MUST be paid (by CHECK or CASH ONLY) upon successfully qualifying at local qualifying site, or qualifying position will be forfeited.

The field for the Championship will consist of 180 players.   An 18-hole stroke-play round will be played on Monday June 9th, 2008 on the Links Course at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia to determine the sixty-four players to make up the match-play field.

The defending champion must qualify, but if his score is higher than the score required to gain a position in the match-play field, he will then be assigned the last spot in the match-play draw.

SIXTY-FOUR (64) qualifiers will compete in the Match Play Championship to determine the champion. Any tie(s) for the last spot(s) in the Match Play field shall be decided immediately upon completion of the June 9th, 2008 qualifying round by a hole-by-hole play-off if time permits, or as determined by the Tournament Committee.

The use of a motorized cart will be MANDATORY during the stroke play qualifying round on Monday, June 9th, 2008.   The cost of the motorized cart for the Stroke Play Qualifying round on June 9th, 2008 IS INLUDED IN THE ENTRY FEE.  

CADDIES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING THE STROKE PLAY QUALIFYING ROUND ON MONDAY, JUNE 9TH, 2008!!

During the Match Play portion of the championship (Tuesday-Thursday), contestants may provide their own caddie, carry own clubs or use a motorized cart AT THEIR OWN COST. 

Allocation of the number of qualifying spots for each district will be pro-rated by the total number of entries received for each qualifying site and POSTED BEFORE THE QUALIFYING ROUND.

THE WSGA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TRANSFER QUALIFIERS!

Pairings for the 2008 WSGA Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade will be made by the WSGA Tournament Committee after the completion of the District Qualifying rounds.

Players will be notified of their Starting Time and Place by mail or E-mail, AND posted on our web site on the 2008 WSGA Match Play Championship Presented by TaylorMade Tournament Information Page.

For the Match Play portion of the championship, players will be seeded based upon their Stroke Play Qualifying round score on June 9th, 2008.
